Welcome!

The Hu Lab studies the molecular mechanisms governing adult stem cell function during tissue regeneration, and how defects in these processes contribute to regenerative decline as we age. We focus on understanding the intricate processes that dictate cell fate determination and stem cell migration. To unravel these complex mechanisms, we have adopted a multi-faceted approach that incorporates powerful live imaging strategies, which allows the direct observation of dynamic stem cell behavior in real time.
Our research employs both Drosophila intestinal and mouse airway models. By leveraging the strengths of both systems, we are able to combine the high-throughput assays and genetics of the fly with the physiological relevance of the mammalian model. Our goal is to identify strategies to rejuvenate aging stem cells, and test whether restoring stem cell function can improve tissue function and increase longevity.
